Video Reflection:
How did it impact you as a teacher and what do you need from this workshop to do that?
I continue to realize that through technology the current generation will learn at higher rates, and will be more engaged in their learning. What I need from this workshop is how to use GOOD technology methods in my course (physical education) that are relavent and usefull, instead of just using something that doenst really fit into my cousre materal, to help students want to learn and be engaged. I also would like to be mroe technology 'smart' so that I can actually feel like i can teach it in my classroom. The video mentioned that students are using outside technology to learn and that those need to be allowed in classrooms.
Asking Questions:
Feel free to add questions here or ask them directly of Vivian or Cara
Taking Notes:
Use this space to record your notes, observations, and ideas from the day's workshop. Format them in the manner you prefer. Note that you can use auto numbering, bulleted lists, and insert a horizontal line as a divider. Or if you prefer, you can insert a table and take your notes there.
-effective teachers need to use technology, with out it...todays students will not learn in their appropriate atmospheres.
-learning is driven by community and what is happening outside of school.
-students need that bar/standards set high for them to learn.
-technology needs to be woven throughout all subjects and through out all learning opportunities.
-thinkfinity (through version) a tool to collect and organize technology ideas for edcuation. all subjects, maybe have ideas that i can use in my area.
-technology allows for creativity and for students to be honest when they may not want to be face to face.
-technology allows for students to have voice, but can not and should not take the place of face to face converstations
-technology allows fro students to ask qeustion that they may have, but dont have the guts to ask them outloud. as teachers, we have look at the importance of what students want to know and than answers those questions in class without the students have to verbally ask them.
-within a wikispace, norms need to be set up. CARING (which is a part of IB learners) is how community (safety) can be set up with in the wiki.
-digital equity - what it is?
how to reserach effectively. send them to a site(s) that have information instead of allowing them to find their information.
what are the teaching issues that need to be addressed/changed to teach inquiry or use teachnology?
-dont give instruction on what to do; give them instrustion on what the outcome needs to be and allow them to figure out how to get there themselves.
-the need for a technology chart, the need for the use of computers, the use of heart rate moniters and how to use them (as teachers)
-should we allow ipod use?...student would run more/better/harder if we allowed them. and how could we use ipods for educational use within our fitness unit?
-INQUIRY - (asking questions about what you are doing, why we are learing? why do we have to do this?)
- have student wonder about how their current fitness levels affects their lives...what happens to them when exercise (running) isnt a part
of their lives.) research that, right about it, wonder about it, talk about concerns, apply it to fitness days. this is why we run?
- have student wonder about why we learn different activities/sports. why is learning how to hit a softball, or play tennis, or know how to score
in bowling an important part of life? have them wonder about how information like this can affect adult livelyhood. xtranormal.com (use of cartoon type characters the represent a athletic type person having a converstation about something controversial...?)
Identify Pedagogical Issue with Lesson/Unit
Based on this morning's introduction, examine a lesson/unit that you've taught. Identify what the lesson needs, how it supports inquiry based learning and District 279 Key Instructional Strategy.
List Possible Solutions, Resources, Options
Describe Issue
Relate to District 279 Key Instructional Strategies
Example: Students aren't engaged by traditional lectures
Example: Effective Learning Environments
Example: Engage students visually while accessing prior knowledge using a slide show made from copyright friendly images or a video from TeacherTube.
Taking Notes:
Continue taking notes as we explore the process of updating a lesson/unit.

Create a Rational for Integrating Technology
As a teacher and a learner, it is important to create a statement that explains why you are making this change to your teaching/learning approach. We have created a tool to facilitate this process. If you prefer to write your rational as a statement in paragraph or bulleted list format, feel free. In the workshop we will provide a paper copy to write, but the file is attached here as well as a resource.
